What To Consider Before Marriage

There are a handful of days that’ll always stand out in your memory. The two biggest are arguably the day you get married and the birth of your first child. Let’s focus on the marriage element. If you’ve been with your partner for a while, and you’ve discussed marriage, then it’s possible that your wedding day could be closer than you think. However, just because it’s on the cards, that doesn’t mean that you have to go through with it. This, after all, is not a decision to be taken lightly. In this blog, we’re going to run through some of the key considerations on what to consider before marriage

What Should You Know Before Getting Married?

Here are the major 4 considerations of what to consider before marriage.

What’s the Motivation?

Before you agree to get married, it’s a good idea to think about what the motivation for doing so is. There are many valid reasons to get married, and, of course, many invalid reasons.

If you’re doing it because you love your partner and want to commit to him or her in a public way, then that’s a pretty solid reason. If you’re doing it because you think that you should or because everyone else is, then that’s pretty weak.

Look within, and you’ll find the answer, whatever it may be!

Are You Settled?

Another key factor on what to consider before marriage is ”Settlement”. You don’t have to live a settled life when you’re married, but it is true that it can make things easier — and that many married couples end up living that type of existence anyway.

So before you get married, think about how settled you are — and whether you like it or not.

You’re not locked into your current way of being, and wanting to change things somewhat doesn’t mean that you can’t get married — but it might be that it’d be better to change your circumstances first before you get married.

Can You Afford It?

Weddings aren’t cheap. If you’re going to have a day that you and your guests love, then you’ll need to set aside some funds to do so. When you’re planning your wedding, think about how much you can afford to spend. If you follow some budgeting ideas for the perfect wedding, then you’ll be able to have a great day without spending the earth.

If you’re really running low on funds, then you might consider saving up some cash first. You only get one chance to get married, so you’ll want to make the most of it!

There’s also no shame in choosing something that’s under your budget like the venue from a 5-star hotel to a romantic yet private and intimate venue or from getting a flashy brand-new engagement ring to a repurposed vintage engagement ring. It’s not the monetary value that really matters but the thought that comes with it.

Do You Have Similar Long-Term Goals?

Finally, think about the future. You might have a vision of where you want to be in five, ten years down the line, but if it’s wildly out of sync with what your partner wants, then at some point or another you’ll run into trouble.

It’ll be more logical to learn about these differences in opinion before you get married, rather than after. Of course, different ideas of the future shouldn’t mean there should be no wedding — it just means that you’ll have to talk it out, to see if there’s a way that you can meet in the middle.
