Amazing Ways To Simplify Your Life Instantly!

I believe these amazing ways to simplify your life are gonna be a favorite.

For me. I hope for you too

For a very long time, when I look in my closet, I always get overwhelmed. For someone who has just about every style and trend in her wardrobe, dressing up every day for work is a herculean task.

I am a ”work in study” when looking for outfits to wear. It is that bad.

Most times and luckily, I have 4 other sisters that I can give my clothes to as gift items otherwise, I’d have been swimming in clothes or perhaps sleeping on top of them.

What Does Simplifying Life Mean?

Simplifying life literally means making things easier in our lives. A friend once told me that we complicate life but life is actually simple. It is eliminating any and every unnecessary ”encumbrance”.

Most times I agree with him.

Simplifying life involves putting away bad habits, developing new habits, learning and unlearning, building, doing away with toxicity and managing our time, and greatly improving productivity.

Ways to simplify life entail the use of technology to make an otherwise difficult task easier. It could be about things you need to quit doing.

1. Ways To Simplify Life: Decluttering

Decluttering your house is a huge deal if you want to simplify your life. It takes me an average of 20 minutes on any day I do not plan my work outfits for a particular week.

Why? My wardrobe is filled albeit organized. There are so many clothing items to choose from, it becomes a problem to make a decision about the one to wear.

The result? Almost running late for work. That’s tardy and unacceptable.

So I declutter at planned intervals by either giving some clothing items out to my younger siblings and friends or donating to an orphanage.

Decluttering simplifies your life physically and psychologically. It gives you inner peace and makes you function optimally.

So go ahead and give away some items from your home/apartment, create more space for you, and improve your productivity. You can even make money by doing a yard sale of those items. This is one way of making and saving money

At times, less is more.

2. Doing Away With Toxic People

Toxic people do not only sap you, physically, they also sap you mentally. Toxic people are not, the only people who abuse you physically. They are also narcissists in nature. They believe they are the best people on earth while every other person is trash.

A toxic person could be a partner who puts you down each and every time. It could an Ex who keeps showing up even though the relationship is over and done with. I call those kinda men ”EMOTIONAL BLANKETS”.

Your friend puts you down and has a problem for every solution. That is toxic.

When you have a friend who constantly argues with you even though you know you are absolutely in the right about what is being argued about, then he/she is toxic.

Do you want to simplify your life? Then do away with toxic people. However, none of us can be an island so minimize contact with such persons.

If you need to do away completely with such people, then do away with them. Your mental health and well-being are of paramount importance

Here is a complete guide on how to remove toxic people from your life even if they are family and friends and you may want to know if you are being manipulated by a toxic person by reading this guide also.

3. Improving Time Management

There was a time I had an epiphany whilst waiting for the gas man. The gas man is a local vendor who supplies cooking gas direct to your house. The link above (waiting for the gas man) has the full details.

The essence of that blog post is how I made use of the time I spent waiting for the gas man to make a delivery to my apartment.

I am not claiming to be a time management guru lol but I try my possible best to manage my time better.

Developing the habit of setting short-term goals, prioritizing tasks, and doing one thing at a time has helped me manage my time better.

We all have 24 hours each day. You can choose to spend half of it on social media, binge on Netflix, or do irrelevant things that do not in any way make life easy for you.

Time is life’s most valuable resource and good time management skills will be one way to simplify your life.

You will meet or beat deadlines

Achieve more and greater things

Stop wastage of time

Have time to fully relax and practice self-care and self-love.

4. Developing Good Mental Habits

Your mental health is your number one priority in life. I recently chose my mental well-being over monthly paychecks by resigning from my job as a QA/QC Manager in an oil and gas servicing company.

It’s almost 3 months, and I don’t have another job yet but I do not regret my decision in any way.

We need to develop good mental habits.

Good mental habits will involve saying ”NO” when something is not comfortable. Standing up for yourself improves your self-esteem and self-confidence.  Using  Affirmations to improve your life is all way that you develop positive and good mental habits.

Do well to do away with bad mental habits such as negative self-talk, self-pity, having low self-esteem, giving in to people you should be saying no to, giving away your power, and dwelling on hurtful experiences to mention but a few.

Adopting good mental habits whilst doing away with bad mental habits are ways to simplify life.

5. Managing Your Finances

My sister recently borrowed me a book by Robert T Kiyosaki, the author of the famous book, Rich Dad Poor Dad (translated into 51 languages and sold over 27 million copies worldwide). The title of the Kiyosaki book I borrowed is Second Chance. It is a financial book and the name is very apt because Kiyosaki’s company filed for bankruptcy back in 2012.

Managing your money is one way of simplifying life. We all know having money troubles to have troubles in life and that complicates life.

It is a great idea to learn how to manage one’s finances in order to simplify our lives.

Albeit the fact that Kiyosaki’s company went bankrupt, Rich Dad Poor Dad is a great book to read to better understand finances and how to manage your money.

The second Chance book is proving to be a great resource financial tool too and I am digesting it one day at a time.

Good spending habits, stopping impulsive buys, learning ways to save, and investing wisely are ways you can better manage your finances as ways to simplify life.

6. Creating Routines

Creating routines is one of the ways to simplify life. When I started blogging and realized that there was a whole lot I needed to learn, I started learning several things at a time.

I would start with one, then something else crops up, I then add it, and so on.

The result was that I became overwhelmed! But I love blogging and realized that I needed to take one thing at a time and develop a routine that would help. I got a journal and started planning.

I would dedicate a day to say SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Pinning, Writing a blog post, and so on.

My routines are not just about blogging. I have a routine for my email system (emptying bins, reading, etc), meal prepping, and laundry.

It makes life simple and easy for me. I reckon creating routines will also simplify your life!

Here are 7 Super Productive Daily Routines You Can Easily Stick To!

7. A Place For Everything

As a Safety and Quality professional, I am expected to practice the principles of my trade. There is what is known as 5S. It is a lean manufacturing tool that is used to represent 5 ”S” words, Sort, Set In Order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain.

5S is a continual improvement tool that improves efficiency and simplifies life which can be used both at the workplace and in homes.

The idea is to have a place for everything and everything in its place.

You have a place for keeping your undies and only your undies are to be in that space. You have a place for keeping your ties and nothing else. That way, you never get to look for anything!

There is more resource on how you can use 5S to simplify your life here.

So, have a place for keeping everything and everything should be in its place.

Way to go!

Great tips! I am all about decluttering anymore. If I see a cluttered countertop or room, I feel a mess! It makes me feel overwhelmed instantly. I need organization ! You are so right that everything needs a home. If it doesn’t have a home I need to get rid of it or find a home!

    • June 25, 2019 / 5:48 pm

Me too Nicole! I always feel very disorganized anytime my apartment gets slightly messy! But then, there is a school of thought that believes that a messy room, increases/improves your creativity!

These are great tips Jennifer! If I might add one of my favorites, it is to learn to say no more. Instead of saying yes because I feel obliged, I’m learning to decline politely.

Thanks Karen! You are very right! Learning to say No is good thing! Thanks for joining the conversation!

What you said in the beginning about getting overwhelmed in the mornings, deciding what to wear, struck a note- it’s such a common complaint I hear! And yes, my solution for that is usually to prepare a few outfits (accessories and all) in the weekend for the week ahead 🙂 But decluttering is definitely also key for keeping everything under control. Very good and insightful post!

Thank you Silvia. I do need to perfect planning outfits ahead of time!

Love the ideas of decluttering the mind and toxic people. Too many times we think of decluttering as a time to clean house only.

    • April 11, 2019 / 3:19 pm

You are right. Most times, we think decluttering is only about our homes! Thanks for joining the conversation Jacquie!

We just spent a couple of days reorganizing the basement, laundry and family room. It’s amazing the transformation it made on the space and the family. Routine is crucial to my productivity now, I received an injury effecting my brain. Recently I changed my routine for just two days and it was enough to throw me into a tailspin for for five days. Simplifying our day can make a huge difference in how we own the day.

    • April 5, 2019 / 5:23 am

So sorry about your injury Blair! I hope you have healed completely! I know right? Each time you declutter, you feel liberated. It’s as if you have just received a new lease of life. You breathe easier because the air around seems fresher! Glad to know you believe in having routines as well. Thanks Blair for joining the conversation.

I am all about managing my budget. I find that when I am not on top of it (even if I’m not over spending) it throws off a lot of stuff. It just feels good to be on top of it. Thanks for sharing.

I am still working at improving my time management. Like even if I am going tomorrow away for a week, I still have a ton of stuff left to do which I crammed on the last hundred meters. It’s better though than it used to be, I’m improving. 🙂

I love the point about doing away with toxic people. I think it is hard one for most people, me included, but it makes such a difference in life to be surrounded by positive people. Thanks for the reminder!

  14. April 3, 2019 / 4:51 am

  15. April 2, 2019 / 5:03 pm

I must agree with all and one of my goal for this year is doing away with toxic people. It is sometimes hard to part ways with some things just like dress grandma made for me.

  16. April 2, 2019 / 2:23 pm

I agree completely with improving time management. We can get so much done during the day, if we just manage our time wisely.

  17. April 2, 2019 / 2:03 pm

My husband and I just cleaned out our closets however my closet doesn’t really look all that cleaned out – ha! I want to get in there and really get rid of stuff but I am way too much of a hoarder!

    • April 2, 2019 / 2:08 pm

I am an hoarder too Gigi! There are some things I find hard to part ways with! I guess we all have that in us lol.

    April 2, 2019 / 12:26 pm

I agree with most of the points you have shared here. I would also like to add the key to live a happy life is not to worry about what others think. You live one life and only you know what you are going through, SO just ignore the others and do what makes you happy. Its a short life and pleasing everyone is not something we all can do.

    • April 2, 2019 / 2:11 pm

Yes Nathan. That is why we need to say No to things that do not in any way, add anything good or positive to our lives!

  19. April 2, 2019 / 10:51 am

great tips. i am all about de-cluttering and also making sure your finances are in order. when you’re organized financially, your life is so much easier.

    • April 2, 2019 / 11:00 am

You can say that again Danielle. When you are organised financially, life is usually easier!
